The V04278 is available as a 1S,2S,3S and 4S combined Protector & SMBUS rev 1.1 Fuel Gauge. The core computational ASSP is the Texas Instruments BQ4050. The V04278 comes preprogrammed with the parameters suiting a general application for NMC chemistry and supporting 7A continuous and 10A peak discharge current with high speed short circuit. State Of Charge (SOC) in accordance with SMBUS 1.1 via the ESD protected communications port. Optionally SOC from an external display (not part of V04278) via the V04278 ZIF connector J2. Lifetime event data is available via the SMBUS port in accordance with the BQ4050 data sheet.
In operation cell voltage, Thermistor (on board) and current in discharge/charge is continually monitored as control inputs. A sense resitor on the negative side provides a low level signal to the BQ4050 which is an analog of current flowing. Mosfet charge and discharge switches are controlled by the BQ4050 with automatic reset. Sleep and wake up are automatic. Short circuit DESIGN proven 3S2P (6AH) using 18650 cells. Cell balancing is passive bleed in charge mode, around 60mA.
