V04263 is part of a family of high performance battery management system (BMS) products, available in stack con”gurations of up to 24S and capable of supporting multiple battery chemistries, provided that the stack voltage is always above 24.5V. Two analog front-ends (AFE), Maxim MAX17830, provide cell voltage data. Multiplexers support up to 24 channels of external 10 kΩ NTC thermistors. This data is fed to the on-board microcontroller (MCU) for processing, and is communicated to the host via CAN. Passive cell balancing operates when charging and at rest, provided that all cell voltages are above the Cell Balancing Activation Voltage. The MCU controls an external contactor (24V/1A coil) according to the parametric data. The data shown here represents an example application, using lithium titanate cells, with a nominal continuous current of 200A. An external shunt or current-sense board provides input to the Fuel Gauge. Short circuit protection is provided for by a discrete circuit (during discharge only). Charge/discharge current does not pass through the BMS board.
Fuel gauging is provided by a TI BQ34Z100 device, which is a Coulometric counter employing TI’s Impedance TrackTM technology, thereby eliminating in-service calibration. External State-of-Charge (SOC) LED indication is supported through a connector interface. The MCU supports up to 128 Mb of external $ash memory, 8 digital I/O lines (3.3V logic) and can be reset externally. A real-time clock is available for event logging, in addition to a USB bus for reprogramming and communications. A 24V/2A housekeeping power supply output is available, plus an on-board 10A relay (5V coil).
