OmniOn Power’s new BPS Power System delivers high power density in a compact solution for 5G deployments

  • Shallow, compact power systems featuring standardized components provide flexibility and cost efficiency.
  • Single-phase BP040 rectifiers deliver high power densities of 45.85 watts/in3 and peak efficiencies exceeding 96%.

As 5G connectivity becomes more pervasive in businesses and homes, wireless and power infrastructure innovations will be essential to widespread connectivity that delivers the throughput, speeds and reliability promised with next-generation networks. OmniOn Power is helping to meet this need and power 5G deployments with its new BPS-Series power systems and BP-Series rectifiers.

“With more small cells being deployed to bolster 5G networks, the need for more power in significantly smaller footprints presents familiar challenges,” said Raj Radjassamy, director, 5G and wireless segment at OmniOn Power. “Our BPS-Series power systems provide impressive power density, efficiency, and resiliency in a compact footprint. We leverage standardized components across the product line to provide flexibility as customers continue to build out their 5G networks.”

Compact, Efficient Power with BPS Power Systems

The BPS power system features a 95-265-volt (V) AC input voltage, provides a DC output voltage range from 42-58V, and can include an optional low-voltage battery disconnect. The system integrates a 1.75-inch-high, 10.3-inch-deep BPS shelf that can accommodate five rectifiers in 19-inch-wide frames and six rectifiers in 23-inch-wide frames. It also includes up to two bullet breaker distribution panels that are four-rack-units (RU) high, with the 19-inch-wide version featuring 20 breaker positions and the 23-inch-wide version having 26 positions available.

The power systems feature OmniOn’s Pulsar Edge or Pulsar Plus controllers, which feature ethernet connectivity to facilitate remote network management and to provide monitoring and control for the rectifiers, batteries, and distribution.

The Power at their Core: BP-Series Rectifiers

At the heart of the BP-Series power system are high-efficiency and power-dense BP040AC48ATEZ rectifiers. The 2-kilowatt power supplies feature a nominal 208-240-volt AC input, a -48V output, and provide power densities of up to 45.85w/in3. At just 1.61 inches high, 3.3 inches wide, and 8.5 inches deep, the hot-pluggable, fan-cooled rectifiers are ideally suited for use in compact small cell radio sites where more power is required to support 5G deployments.

Additional key features of the BP040 Rectifier include the following:

  • Wide input voltage range of 90-264VAC.
  • Operating temperature range of -40 to 75°C. at 96% peak efficiencies.
  • 1200W output at 120VAC input and 2000W output at 208/240VAC input voltage.
