Edgeport

USB-to-serial converters

  • Add 1, 2, 4, 8, or 16 serial ports to a PC or thin client in minutes
  • RS-232, RS-422, or RS-485 serial ports (software selectable)
  • USB, parallel ports or powered USB ports also available
  • Galvanic isolated, industrial, compact and rugged metal models
  • Rack-mount options

Edgeport USB-to-serial converters offer an easy Plug and Play solution for COM port expansion. An external box alternative to PCI cards, Edgeport connects serial devices to a PC or server's USB port, eliminating the need to open the chassis, reconfigure and reboot. Simply plug in the Edgeport and in minutes gain up to 16 serial ports to connect bar-code scanners, printers, or any serial peripheral device.

Edgeport USB-to-serial converters offer instant I/O expansion for peripheral device connectivity. An out-of-the-box (external) alternative to PCI cards, Edgeport makes it easy to add serial, USB or parallel ports to a PC, server or thin client in minutes – without opening the chassis, reconfiguring or rebooting the system.

Designed for mission-critical enterprise applications, Edgeport is available in multiple configurations for maximum flexibility and scalability. Choose from compact form factors for space-prohibitive applications; single port “bump-in-the-cable” solutions for notebook expansion; software-selectable RS-232/422/485 models to connect any type of serial device to one box; metal enclosures for rugged applications; models with galvanic isolated ports for extended electrical safety; and DB-9, DB-25 or RJ-45 connectors to meet cabling requirements.

Feature-rich design, reliability and unmatched operating system support make Edgeport USB-to-serial converters ideal for mission-critical enterprise applications.

USB over IP

AnywhereUSB

Network-attached USB hubs

  • Access and monitor USB and serial devices over TCP/IP network
  • Works with existing POS or other application software
  • Excellent in virtualized environments such as VMware®
  • Creates systems redundancy and increases security
  • Simplifies operations and reduces IT support

AnywhereUSB products are network-attached USB hubs that connect USB peripheral devices to a PC over a Local Area Network. The AnywhereUSB TS model also adds four RS-232 serial ports, enabling the mixing of USB and serial ports over the same network connection. Relocating the host PC to a remote location translates to smaller workstations, enabling deployment without a local PC in kiosks, ATMs, restaurant kitchens, manufacturing lines or any hostile or non-secure area where having a local PC is not practical.

AnywhereUSB is a network-attached USB hub. Combining Digi’s patented RealPort® USB and RealPort® COM port redirector technologies, AnywhereUSB connects USB and serial devices anywhere on a wired or wireless LAN, while eliminating the need for locally-attached host PCs. Relocating the host PC to a remote location translates to smaller workstations, enabling deployment without a local PC in kiosks, ATMs, restaurant kitchens, manufacturing lines or any hostile or non-secure area where having a local PC is not practical.

AnywhereUSB/2, AnywhereUSB/5 and AnywhereUSB TS provide two, five and four USB ports respectively, which deliver the same Plug and Play user experience as onboard USB ports. AnywhereUSB TS also adds four RS-232 serial ports with the same transparency. Software drivers are loaded onto a host PC or server, enabling remote devices to communicate with the host, without changing existing application software. Peripheral devices can be centrally managed and monitored from a remote server or PC via an IP address.

AnywhereUSB is compatible with bulk or interrupt type USB devices such as bar-code scanners, printers, fingerprint scanners, mice, pole displays, card readers, flash drives, security keys, and more. It is an excellent solution for networked USB or serial devices in VMware and Microsoft virtualized environments. Watchport/V3 USB camera (click here to see a live video feed), Watchport® sensorsand Edgeport® USB-to-serial converters are also fully compatible with AnywhereUSB.
